The Lighthouse Counseling Center was established as a gap agency to provide services to youth and adolescents who were experiencing substance abuse and other related problems. Today, the Lighthouse is a fully operational agency offering a wider array of services.

Our Chemical Dependence Recovery Program is an intensive outpatient program organized around the proven twelve-step method. This program has several components including day and evening sessions, a specialized group for women and dependent children and a group for the dually diagnosed (i.e. those with both substance abuse and mental illness diagnoses). An additional component of this program is HIV/AIDS education and prevention outreach.

In past years, we have focused on a variety of strategies to promote the prevention of substance use and abuse in youth. However, over the course of the last year, the focus of the Department of Mental Health/Substance Abuse Division has implemented a shift to focusing on the environment.

Through the Environmental Strategy, we are focused on the cause and the conditions of the community. Specifically, we work within a specific community to promote environmental change on issues that have been considered the \'norm\' within that particular community (i.e. underage drinking, under age purchasing of alcohol and tobacco). Youth are actively involved in this process and take responsiblity in promoting change within their community.

At Colonial Management Group we believe that addiction to heroin and other opiates is a disease. Colonial Management Group runs methadone treatment centers to help addicts overcome addiction to heroin, opium and opiate-based prescriptions. We use methadone treatment as a way to
relieve the craving for heroin, and opiate-based prescription drugs (Dilaudid, Percodan, Percocet, Propoxyphene). Our goal is to treat our patients with dignity and respect in each phase of their treatment
experience.

We focus the work in our clinics on managing the disease and strive hard to improve our patients\\\' quality of life. This involves implementing the most current research findings in our treatment of our patients.
Because of our concern for the community as a whole, we seek to be a resource by educating the public on the disease of addiction and advocating the value of treatment in improving the lives of the people struggling with this addiction.

Each person on our team is doing his or her part to help those with opiate addictions and improve the quality of life in their communities.

Patients are assigned a personal counselor and are seen on varying
schedules according to the length of time in treatment and also the responses gained from treatment. The counselors routinely monitor the patient\\\'s drug-free status by use of random urinalysis, which are taken at least once a month but more often as clinically indicated or as mandated by state rules. Treatment plans are utilized throughout the
treatment stay and are modified as necessary in accordance with each progression.

The Chemical Addictions Program, Inc., or CAP, is a private
 non-profit agency certified by the Alabama Department of
Mental Health and Mental Retardation to provide outpatient
substance abuse treatment for Elmore, Montgomery, Autauga
and Lowndes counties and adult male inpatient treatment
for the state of Alabama.

The purpose of Intensive Outpatient Program is to provide a comprehensive
program of substance abuse services for those who lack
insurance coverage or the financial resources to obtain
private treatment for residents of Montgomery, Elmore,
Autauga, and Lowndes counties. The Intensive Outpatient
Program provides a treatment setting that is less restrictive
than residential treatment yet permits individuals in
treatment to receive professional care without disrupting
their home environment and employment status. CAP IOP
follows the Matrix Model of substance abuse treatment

The Right Turn Inc. is an organization that is certified by the State of Alabama\'s Department of Mental Health/Mental Retardation to perform substance abuse treatment for adults, including those with co-occurring disorders. Our curriculum is approved and recommended by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

Though our treatment facility and offices are located in the Community Ministries Building of the First Baptist Church (FBC), we are not a faith-based organization. All of our employees are bound by the American Counseling Association (ACA) Code of Ethics, which prohibits religious teachings. However, our program does have a spiritual component and encourages all clients to apply their own religious convictions to benefit their treatment and recovery. Our clients also have all the advantages provided by the FBC\'s Community Ministries, including clothing, help with medical and identification needs, English as a second language, GED classes, and more.

Our experienced staff includes a Licensed Professional Counselor, a Licensed Professional Social Worker, Master\'s-level Counselors, and degreed Case Managers. Some are military veterans experienced in counseling those affected by post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

We are unique in understanding that an individual\'s success in life often depends on more than gaining and maintaining freedom from substance abuse, and we are sensitive to discovering those needs during a client\'s course of treatment. For instance, we may discover that a client may benefit from a program such as literacy or GED classes, training in how to get and keep a job, or programs that offer guidance in basic living skills.  When we determine that outside assistance is advisable, our referral process points needful clients toward appropriate servicing agencies in our community.
